Project Overview

The Preserve at Honey Creek is a single-family residential housing development in McKinney. To help our client Lennar prepare for development, Moss Utilities created the sewer infrastructure for this site, including aerial crossing and erosion control. We ran on-site and off-site sewer lines for the entire project and installed all the sewer manholes.

One unusual challenge we faced on the Preserve at Honey Creek project was installing a gabion wall through the creek. With all the precipitation that fell on the site during the first quarter of 2020, the rainwater washed brush down into the creek, which accumulated into a makeshift dam. We had to clean all of that out, which was an unexpected hassle.

In addition, the rain caused issues with manhole water penetration, and we were also unable to complete our work in the creek as planned because the water levels were simply too high for our crews to perform their tasks.

Due to the elevation change from one side of the site to the other — the elevation rises from where we tied in, up to where the subdivision will be built — we had to install sewer lines 18 to 20 feet deep in some areas. We were only able to slope the top half of the trench and then we had to drag a trench box through the trench.

All told, we installed 11,000 LF of sewer line, ranging from eight inches to 18 inches, along with aerial crossing of the creek. We also worked closely with another subcontractor that was installing the other utilities for the residential development, meaning we had to work together to avoid setbacks.

There were several aspects of the Preserve at Honey Creek project that didn’t quite go as planned. Still, this project stands as proof that Moss Utilities can adapt to a wide variety of challenges without sacrificing the top-notch quality of work that we provide to all of our clients.
